Distribution of new BPL cards soon: Minister KH Muniappa
The government has now given an important message regarding the distribution of BPL cards. It has been informed that the ration card will be distributed very soon.
Food Minister KH Muniappa said that the government will conduct the process of issuing the cards as soon as possible to those who have applied for BPL ration cards. All the applications will be verified and the card will be distributed, he said.
There have been 3 lakh applications for new BPL cards. Some of them have requested to give ration card for the benefit of non-ration health schemes. So, steps will be taken to issue cards to such people as soon as possible, he said.
Currently, there are 1.28 crore BPL ration holders in the state, out of which 97 lakh ration holders have been transferred 5 kg of rice to their accounts under the Annabhagya Yojana. Data information of remaining 30 lakh BPL allottees is not correct. He said that all these will be rectified and steps will be taken to ensure that even these people get the benefit of the cash transfer scheme under the Annabhagya Yojana.
Minister Muniyappa said that the additional 5 kg of rice under the Annabhagya Yojana may be delayed by several months. BPL card holders are being given cash instead of extra rice. He informed that one crore families have been transferred through DBT.
He said that this step has been taken to facilitate the eligible and prevent the ineligible from misusing the scheme.
